Schedule
Day 1: We depart our local area and make our way to Dover to board our ferry to Dunkirk. Upon arrival we then continue our journey to our overnight hotel stopping enroute for comfort and refreshement stops and arriving in time for our evening meal.
Day 2: After breakfast, we depart our overnight hotel and travel to Basel to board our premium floating hotel, The Nobleman, where we begin our 7-day cruise.
Day 3: Experience Switzerland in motion aboard one of Veenus’ signature train charters. Departing from Basel, your journey unfolds through awe-inspiring alpine landscapes as the train glides effortlessly into the heart of the Swiss Alps. Settle into your panoramic coach and enjoy a welcome drink, complemented by regional Swiss snacks and wine served along the route. Throughout the journey, onboard guides bring the scenery to life, sharing stories that deepen your connection to every valley, peak, and village that drifts past your window. In the event that this service is unavailable, an alternative train of similar duration will be provided, though the route may differ.
Day 4: Black Forest Coach Guided Tour (full-day) Journey by coach from the Rhine into the Black Forest, where in hillside villages the 17th-century art of cuckoo clockmaking still thrives, each clock hand-carved and proudly certified. Enjoy a scenic mountain drive through pine-covered valleys, past waterfalls and home to the region’s sweetest legend, the Black Forest Cake or enjoy time walking around Breisach.
Day 5: City Guided Tour (half-day) The “City of Inventions” where innovation and history intertwine. The birthplace of the bicycle, the automobile, and the tractor, this city has shaped modern mobility. Its distinctive grid-style layout, earning it the nickname “City of Squares,” sets it apart from any other German city. Mannheim Palace is a grand reminder of the city’s royal past, the second-largest Baroque palace in Europe rivalled only by Versailles.
Day 5: Mainz, the “Great Wine Capital” of Germany, sits at the centre of the Rheinhessen – the country’s largest wine-growing region. Renowned for its centuries-old winemaking tradition, explore one of the Vineyards that surround this city also the home to the Kupferberg cellars, the deepest sparkling wine cellars in the world.
Day 6: Vineyard tour (half-day) In Mainz, wine is a way of life, a tradition flowing through more than 2,000 years of history. The Romans first planted vines along the Rhine’s gentle slopes. Today, Mainz stands among the Great Wine Capitals of the World, alongside Bordeaux and Napa Valley. Most vineyards are family-owned, cultivating grapes for white wines in fertile soils, many now embracing organic farming.
Day 7: Old Town Walking Tour (half-day). One of Germany’s oldest towns, Speyer is crowned by its majestic cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest Romanesque church in the world. The town also holds a remarkable treasure of the world’s oldest unopened bottle of wine, preserved since the days of the Roman Empire.
Day 8: Set on the border of France and Germany, Strasbourg reveals a maze of half-timbered houses and flower-lined canals winding through La Petite France, a storybook quarter once home to tanners and fishermen. Its city centre holds a special distinction as the first entire city in France to be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 9: Depart the cruise in Basel after breakfast to make our way to overnight hotel .
Day 10: After breakfast we depart our overnight hotel and make our way to Dunkirk to board our ferry to Dover. Upon arrival in Dover we continue our journey back to our local area.
